Rêver platine Sandrine Pelletier Jean-Luc Verna

Sandrine Pelletier burns, breaks and tests matter. She confronts wood, metal and glass with fire, acid and accident. Yet she does not destroy, she alters, adding delicacy to materials through brutal processes. Her works present landscapes after the shock and sharp words on our contemporary realities. Based in Lausanne, Pelletier has lived in Lebanon and Cairo. Since 2012, her experiences in these territories marked by upheavals, destruction and renewal have profoundly shaped her work. She creates an oeuvre attentive to the vestiges that persist despite ruin. So, the darker the night, the more necessary the trace. And even when matter is consumed and blackened, the roses and the light remain in Sandrine Pelletier's work. Born in 1976, Sandrine Pelletier lives and works between Cairo and Lausanne. Jean-Luc Verna is one of those artists for whom art and life are one. His daily life is a performance, his body a sculpture, a battlefield; the air he moves is charged with new wave tones and sulphurous glamour. Yet his work goes beyond his person: drawings proliferate, musical landscapes, birds of fierce omen, damaged portraits of humanity; installations evoke a music-hall universe. And while Verna's skies are studded with rhinestones, the star that has presided over his destiny for three decades is black or metallic. Verna is also an artist committed to forgotten or oppressed communities, particularly the LGBTQIA+ community. His work, grave in appearance, is aware of the tragedies that follow one another. It is a work of memory, yet it refuses gravity and, like a poet who considers himself defeated, sings victory while falling. Jean-Luc Verna was born in 1966. He lives and works in Paris.
