La Dolce, deux regards

Housed in a former bus depot made available by the City of Lausanne, this legendary club welcomed some of the most influential artists of its time between 1985 and 1999. Edgar frequented the club's nights with fascination before becoming a collaborator of the venue. As a privileged witness, he photographed for several years the musicians who shaped the identity of the place. In 2018, almost 20 years after the club's closure, his daughter Celeste discovers a box of negatives and contact sheets. Surprised and fascinated, she questions her father about that era. For her graduation project in graphic design at ERACOM, she takes a fresh look at her father's photographs and brings them together in a book that bears witness to a shared passion for music and offers a dialogue between two generations. The association 30, rue du Dr César Roux (managed by Blaise Duc and Stephan «Mandrax» Kohler, publisher of Dolce Vita, a music club) takes an interest in this work, and an 80-page journal, unique of its kind, comes out in 2023. The exhibition at the Docks presents a selection of the photographs in large-format prints, highlighting Edgar's work as well as the artists who made La Dolce vibrate, among them Henry Rollins, François Hadji-Lazaro, Madredeus, Keziah Jones and Ali Farka Touré.
