Gilla band + Makeshift art bar

Buy tickets For those not yet converted: a good gateway drug into GILLA BAND's shamanic post-punk is their latest single "Giraffe". Repetition, repetition, repetition, is the fluorescent mantra of hypnosis. You hear the speed-soaked noise of The Fall and Sonic Youth, the bass meanwhile works the same groove over and over, while the guitar grates out spark-spraying dissonances. On the home straight the song drifts from the krautrock-tinged third gear into the techno automatic mode. Dance floor clear for Dara Kiely's whining tirades: "She followed me with a comb," he sprech-sings with moody snootiness, "and demanded that I put on a decent jacket." Brilliant! Since 2015 the quartet from Dublin, which until 2021 called itself Girl Band, has released albums that are as exciting as they are demanding. Post-punk, industrial and pure noise merge into a racing noise carousel that spins faster and faster - or, as guitarist Alan Duggan puts it: "The most extreme form of punk". At the edges the band provokes the breaking point, yet at the core of its spectacular sonic body it remains danceable. A trip. At the British noise-rock trio MAKESHIFT ART BAR the guitars pile up, the electronics throb, intensely, chaotically and atmospherically swinging between apocalypse and proclamation of salvation, between The Birthday Party, Viagra Boys and Sonic Youth. We look forward to their second visit at Bogen F.
