MOTHERMARY offers a retro-futuristic "art pop" music that refuses to fit the mould. Taking its name from the mother of Christ - the ultimate symbol of religious hypocrisy and the unrealistic expectations imposed on women - the project is the product of the imagination of twin sisters Elyse and Larena. They grew up in a strict Mormon family in Missoula, Montana, where they were the youngest of a brood of nearly a dozen children. “It was our world... our paradigm,” Larena says of that time. “We had been brainwashed.”
