Subject Sue releases her Details in the Dark EP on vinyl via Avant!

Subject Sue releases her first EP, Details in the Dark, on 21 October 2026 as a limited vinyl on Avant!, an EBM and dark electro label. The record had already been released digitally. The project falls under EBM and dark electro, with elements of industrial and minimal synth.

Subject Sue is the solo project of a singer and keyboardist from Amsterdam, who went through several other bands before launching it. She studied visual arts, where she became interested in alter egos and the tension between subjective and objective storytelling. A stage alter ego built on these themes became Subject Sue.

The EP has six tracks: Details in the Dark, Hides, Way Too Much, Treat, Under My Skin and Cry. It relies on pulsing synthesizers, textured soundscapes and layered vocal harmonies, somewhere between darkwave and nocturnal club music. The songs deal with desire, romance, intimacy and alienation, drawing on Amsterdam's queer nightlife. Videos already exist for the title track and for Under My Skin.

Arcana returns with Magna Silentia, a requiem for Vendela

Arcana releases Magna Silentia, its first album of new material since As Bright As A Thousand Suns (2012). The band from Eskilstuna returns to the label Cold Meat Industry.

Peter Bjärgö composed a requiem on it for his daughter Vendela, born of his union with Cecilia, died on 26 October 2024 at the age of twenty-two. The record is dark ambient in style.

The album is split into two parts. The choral passages, including the a cappella Det Stora Tysta and Natura est Templum, recall Arvo Pärt and “holy minimalism”, according to Obsküre. They alternate with industrial-tinged dark ambient pieces such as The Obsidian Mirror and Somnia Intus. Peter Bjärgö's voice returns on The Adversity Bell, The Collapsing of all Light and An Innermost Sanctum. The title track opens onto a brighter tone.

For Obsküre, the band takes a step aside from its usual style here.

Rue Oberkampf releases Wehmut, six minimal wave tracks

Rue Oberkampf releases Wehmut on 15 October 2026, on its own label. This minimal wave release brings together six tracks: Tonight, Come on Moon, Blanc Poney, Into the Woid, Sonne and Darkness.

The project was founded in late 2016 by three DJs. It pairs urban electronics with Julia's French-German vocals, which has reminded some critics of a more forceful version of Deux or Kirlian Camera.

Echoes of Zoo release Collective Intelligence, their third album

A quartet from the Belgian jazz scene, Echoes of Zoo release Collective Intelligence, their third album after Breakout in 2021 and Speech of Species in 2023. The band brings together saxophonist Nathan Daems, founder and member of Black Flower, guitarist Bart Vervaeck and drummer Falk Schrauwen, both of Compro Oro, and bassist Lieven Van Pée of De Beren Gieren.

The record blends desert blues, Ethiopian rhythms, psychedelic passages and moods close to dub and trip-hop. Higher Levels opens the album with a desert blues guitar, Wolf Pack Telepathy shifts midway into a psychedelic passage, and Flock Logic strings together surf guitar and a no-wave rhythm section. Whale Syntax, a seven-minute piece with tablas, closes the album.

The two previous albums were built around a theme: the clash between nature and the human world for Breakout, animal communication for Speech of Species. Collective Intelligence continues this approach with music the band wants to carry a sense of hope. Backseat Mafia gives it 90/100. The album is available in record shops or directly from Zephyrus Records.

Satanic Planet unveils Antichrist, a low-budget horror movie video

Satanic Planet releases the video for Antichrist, the third single from its album Dead Deities, after Church Burning and Sam Alito's Mom. The industrial and experimental electronic quartet will put out the album on 30 October on Relapse Records. It will be its second, after the self-titled debut of 2021.

The video, written and directed by Carl Fry and Maxwell Nalevansky, takes the form of a cult short film. It follows a serial killer nicknamed Coffin Feeder and a cannibal widow named Faith, in the spirit of 1980s video nasties and slashers, with a touch of surreal humor. Caroline Lawton produced, Carmen Hilbert is credited with the cinematography and German Suane with the incidental music.

Luke Wilcox, Martina Victoria and Jinx Leavitt play the lead roles. Justin Pearson and Luke Henshaw, members of the band, play the victims, and Lucien Greaves, co-founder of the group and spokesperson for the Satanic Temple, plays Death. Drummer Dave Lombardo does not appear. The band's performance takes up the last part of the film.

The video is on YouTube with an age restriction. Dead Deities can be pre-ordered digitally, on CD, vinyl and cassette on Bandcamp and in the Relapse store.

Infrablack and Nevel cover No Angel, a 2001 song by Propulsion

Belgian synthpop projects Infrablack and Nevel released the single No Angel, with a video, on 9 October 2026. It is their first joint release.

The track reworks a song that Bart Van Meulebroeck, the man behind Nevel, had put out in 2001 under the name Propulsion. In late 2025, Eddy Scheire of Infrablack sent him a demo built on vintage synthesizers, in the spirit of Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Tangerine Dream. Van Meulebroeck reworked it with contemporary rhythms and production, kept the 2001 lyrics and added new female vocals. “I always wanted to make a Moby-style track,” he says.

Infrablack, launched in 2020 by Scheire, has released the albums Voltage Controlled Reality (February 2024) and Time-Lapse on the German label ZYX. Nevel, Van Meulebroeck's project, blends psychedelic dub, ambient, electronica and dance. Among other things, it has released Sunvoices with Dirk Da Davo of The Neon Judgement, taken from the album Subconscious Dubs.

POZI releases Edinburgh, second single from the album Bark Bark

London post-punk trio POZI unveils Edinburgh, the second single from its third album, Bark Bark, due on Friday 13 November on Rumbaba Recordings. The band combines violin, bass and drums. After a two-year break, Rosa Brook and Toby Burroughs are joined by bassist and singer Frank Lindsay. The album adds electronic production, textured percussion and extra instrumentation.

Despite its title, the song describes an imaginary village, with its gossip, customs and shared pleasures, and the urge to escape it. The chorus goes: “Firstly mind your own business / Secondly leave me out of it”. Rosa Brook says the track came out of a jam at Banana Row Studios in Edinburgh, and the chorus comes from a phone conversation overheard by chance. The lyrics deal with the claustrophobia of staying in one place, while acknowledging that the road can also be a “cruel mistress”.

The found-footage-style video was directed by Maisy Banks at Archway House in Sherwood Forest. Shot in low light in front of a fireplace, it shows Brook wearing crystal blue contact lenses and a 1920s-style dress. Photo: Jack Taylor Gotch.

Mass Minor releases Get Up on Metropolis, from Beyond The Edge Of Reason

Mass Minor, a darkwave and electronic rock project from Austin, Texas, led by Andrew J. Martin, Jr., releases the single Get Up on Metropolis Records. It will appear on the album Beyond The Edge Of Reason, planned for late February 2027. The project's first album, Become Each Other, came out independently in 2020.

The track runs at 169 beats per minute. Martin describes it as “a conversation with God at 169 BPM about sin, money, mortality and what we sacrifice our lives to”. The idea: asking God to save us from problems we created ourselves, when that may not be his role.

The video is directed by Teresa Jolie, with editing and visual effects by Beau Jason Loy and production by Simon Mars. Amy Martin plays a blindfolded woman, perhaps a figure of Justice, who wanders through a dark forest singing in the darkness.

CALLA returns with DE FACTO, its first album since 2007

CALLA releases DE FACTO, its sixth studio album and the first since Strength In Numbers, released in 2007 on Beggars Group. The twelve tracks come out on Nuevo Leon Recordings, Aurelio Valle's label. They grew out of jam sessions, then were worked on between Texas and New York, with touches of glam and americana in the band's guitar playing.

The album includes three covers: Killer on the Rampage by Eddy Grant, Sinnerman in a reading inspired by Nina Simone, and Ride A White Swan by T. Rex. Paralyzed is a new version of Stand Paralyzed, a 2007 track that Valle first imagined in the spirit of Lou Reed. He says he approached it like a cover or a remix of his own song, to finish an idea left incomplete because of the pace of touring and recording.

Formed in 1996 in New York and Brooklyn, CALLA crossed paths with Interpol, The Walkmen, Secret Machines, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Blonde Redhead. Kid Congo Powers and Michael Gira advised the band, which has recorded for Sub Rosa, Young God Records, Arena Rock and Beggars Group. The lineup is Valle (guitars, keyboards, vocals), Wayne B. Magruder (drums, programming, percussion) and Peter Gannon (bass).

DE FACTO is available on Bandcamp. The translucent green Coke Bottle vinyl, hand-numbered and limited to 300 copies, comes with a poster, lyrics and an insert. Shipping is planned for around 9 November 2026.

Endzustand: Macht Gesellschaft, German-language EBM on the state of society

Endzustand releases Macht Gesellschaft, an EBM album out on Echozone. The minimalist lyrics are in German and take a critical look at modern society, without giving up humor.

The titles are enough to set the tone: Maschinenangst, Digitale Diktatur, Fake News, Thrash TV. The beats are hammering, built for the dance floor.

The album has 13 tracks and runs for over 40 minutes, ending on a calmer note with Ich geh leben.

Diemen Sniep unveils Logs, from the album Nobody Likes a Pity Party

Belgian post-punk and experimental noise rock band Diemen Sniep releases Logs, the second single from its second album, Nobody Likes a Pity Party. The record is due on 13 November on the label JauneOrange and can be pre-ordered on the label's Bandcamp page. Their first album, Life Without Adrenaline, dates from 2021.

The song deals with the uncertainty over how to spend one's time and the sacrifices required to realize one's dreams. The lyrics swing between collective anxiety and the need for certainty, between resignation (“It's always been the same / Nothing will change”) and the search for solutions.

The band cites Swans, The Birthday Party and Talk Talk among its influences and combines the harshness of noise rock with the tensions of post-punk, with dreamlike atmospheres and catchy melodies.

The album was recorded in several studios in Belgium and the Netherlands. Maximiliaan de Hoogd, Yannick Lemoine and Jamshid Mahmoudy produced it, with Mahmoudy also handling the mixing. Christian Bethge did the mastering in Germany.

Gossip Collar releases Eaten Of Worms, its third gothic rock album

Gossip Collar, a band from Boston, releases Eaten Of Worms, its third album. The previous one, Spinning Silk For Parasites, came out in 2024 on the Polish label Bat-Cave Productions. A first self-titled album had been self-released in 2023.

The band draws on the gothic rock of the late 1980s and early 1990s. According to Dark Entries, this sound is closer to the British goth of the period than to death rock: airy guitars, hollow basslines, tight drums and a slightly distant female voice.

The album has ten tracks of three to four minutes, running a little over half an hour. Spelling Misery, Scavengers (which has a video) and Peaceful Delight are the liveliest tracks. Unsafe State, sober and driven by electronics, would find a place on a minimal synth or minimal wave compilation.

Caitlin Starling shares an excerpt from Milkteeth, a vampire novel

Reactor publishes an excerpt from Milkteeth, a horror novel by Caitlin Starling due from St. Martin's Press on 10 November.

The book follows Beatrice, a “broodmother”: a vampire tasked with guiding newly made young vampires through their first years. She lives in a former maze of offices, isolated beneath her protector's skyscraper, where she raises two difficult, hungry fledglings. The arrival of a third upsets the balance: her hunger becomes uncontrollable and her body changes. To regain control of herself, she turns to a human obstetrician-gynecologist, whose closeness threatens the clan's secret and the safety of the young ones in her care.

In the excerpt, Beatrice attends a breastfeeding support group held on an upper floor of a hospital, an infant in her arms. She watches the mothers there and introduces herself by her first name on a label stuck to her chest.

James Watkins's Clayface: first reactions to the DCU's body horror

Clayface, directed by James Watkins with Tom Rhys Harries in the lead role, is the third DCU film after Superman and Supergirl. The first reactions from the specialist press came out on 14 October 2026, as relayed by Écran Large.

The film is presented as a horror film. Chris Killian (ComicBook.com) describes a gory spectacle, striking body horror scenes and a tribute to classic gothic romance films. Jim Vejvoda (IGN) sees a return to revenge thrillers and the low-budget horror films of the 1950s and 60s. Edward Douglas compares it to Sam Raimi's Darkman and Cronenberg's The Fly, and notes that it requires no prior knowledge of the comics.

Opinions are not unanimous: podcaster Shahbaz praises the body horror and Tom Rhys Harries's performance, but finds the plot and some choices strange.

The film follows a Superman that grossed 618 million dollars on a 225 million dollar budget, and a Supergirl that made 126 million on a 175 million dollar budget.
