Veljanov unveils the video for Nomos Shanderilan, first single from the album Shanderilan

Prophecy Productions has released the video for “Nomos Shanderilan”, the first single from the upcoming album by Veljanov, a German darkwave project. The track has been available since October 13 on Bandcamp and streaming platforms. The surreal black-and-white video was directed by Oliver Sommer and produced by Birgit Sommer. Alexander Veljanov appears in it alongside the dancer Lea Fierke.

The singer explains that the song is a call to resist the oppression of democratic principles and values. In his words, the track's disparate musical elements are united by the sound of the “Veljanov cosmos”.

Shanderilan, Veljanov's fourth solo album, will be released on January 5, 2027 by Prophecy Productions. It was produced by Alexander Veljanov with the Macedonian composer and guitarist Goran Trajkoski. It is the first since Porta Macedonia (2008) and the single “We Can't Turn Back” (2009). The deluxe edition adds three tracks and comes as a double CD in a hardcover book with photos and notes. The standard edition will also be released on black or light blue and black marbled vinyl. Pre-orders are open on Bandcamp as a download and on CD.

Alexander Veljanov is the singer of Deine Lakaien, together with co-founder Ernst Horn. His first solo album, Secrets of the Silver Tongue, dates from 1998, followed by The Sweet Life in 2001.

Random Parade launches Collapsing Narcissist, first single from Think Happy Thoughts

Random Parade, a project led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Gregory Christopher, unveils “Collapsing Narcissist”, the first single from its upcoming album, Think Happy Thoughts.

The track blends crystalline guitars, solid rhythms and a post-punk-minded bassline. Obscure Sound notes a sharp shift shortly before the two-minute mark.

The project describes the song as a study of a character whose outsized ego begins to collapse under its own weight, with a restrained satisfaction coming from backstage. It adds that, beneath the humor, the song leaves open the question of whether a true narcissist would acknowledge responsibility for their own downfall.

RIP Dunes releases Tales From The Ripped, a post-punk album between jangly guitars and analog synths

RIP Dunes, Matthew Iwanusa's New York project based in Brooklyn, releases Tales From The Ripped. This post-punk album combines guitars with analog electronics and tape-treated atmospheres.

The record is built like a half-forgotten night movie set in the 1980s, with recurring characters and a cinematic plot. It alternates between dark synth passages, hypnotic rhythms and jangly guitars.

According to Obscure Sound, the opener “New Prophet” blends a grimy synth bass with a bright lead and wordless ghostly harmonies. “You Tired” evokes New Order with its bouncing bass and shimmering guitars. “I Work in a Factory” leans toward instrumental electronics, while “Rem” brings back the mix of jangly rock and synths. “Anniversary” is loaded with feedback, and “Deadly Towers” closes the album on spacey synths.

Nobody announces the EP The Birds Know on Inverse Records, with the single You Don't Get to Love

Nobody, the solo project of Finland's Tuomas Kauppinen, will release the EP The Birds Know on November 12 on Inverse Records. The project is dark folk.

On three of the four tracks, the artist departs from his habits: Eliel Norkola-Smith accompanies him on bass.

The single You Don't Get to Love is already out. Tuomas Kauppinen describes it this way: “this song is dedicated to all xenophobes, those who hate and fear people who look different, act differently or speak differently.” He also sees it as a tribute to Mali and the former kingdom of Mandkinka, whose musicians are said to have taken the instruments of the gods to bring them to humanity.

Heilung unveils the Læknisgaldr video, first single from the album Sagas

Heilung has released the video for Læknisgaldr, the first single from its upcoming album Sagas. The experimental folk group explains that the first sound of the track was not produced by anything from our reality. This ghostly effect comes partly from real breath and real human bones used in the recording.

The clip was shot in Borre Vikingmarked National Park in Norway, then at Árdalur, Írárfoss and other locations in Iceland. Directed and edited by Gornoss, it brings together numerous warriors recruited in both countries. Kai Uwe Faust, throat singer and core member of the group, links the trembling of fear to the neurogenic tremors through which mammals discharge adrenaline after danger. The video continues a story about trauma and how to heal it, of which it forms the second part.

Sagas is Heilung's fourth album and its first studio release since ᛞᚱᛁᚠ = Drif in 2022. It gathers recordings made with the studio Ninja Theory for the game Hellblade II: Senua's Saga, and the group presents it as an “interim” release, a separate branch of its universe.

The album is out on 11 December on Season of Mist in digital, CD and vinyl formats, the latter in black or pink marbled. A Sagas + Ambient edition adds eight soundscapes. Pre-orders are open.

Spoons announces Nightlife, its eighth album and first fully independent release

Canadian new wave band Spoons announces Nightlife, its eighth studio album, due on November 6, 2026 on CD, as a download and on 180-gram red vinyl. It is the band's first fully independent release: every creative decision was made by the band itself. The first single is called “Take The World”.

Jeff Carter produces the record. Gord Deppe handles vocals and guitar, Sandy Horne bass and vocals. Keyboards are played by Scott MacDonald, Jeff Carter and Matthew Deppe, and the two live drummers, Chris McNeil and Tony Ferraro, play on the album. There are ten tracks, including “Take the World”, “Doomed” and “Better Late Than Never Did It”.

Spoons formed in 1980 in Burlington, Ontario. Its first album, Stick Figure Neighbourhood, was recorded in 1981 with engineer Daniel Lanois. Arias & Symphonies (1982) was recorded at George Martin's AIR Studios in London. In 2021, the band released Echoes, an album of its songs covered by other artists.

Steve Strange: Le Palais De Danse, unreleased solo album, due in November

An unreleased solo album by Steve Strange, the Visage singer who died in 2015, is due out on 20 November 2026 on Cherry Red / SFE. Le Palais De Danse brings together the recordings originally intended for the album, along with extended versions, dance mixes and single mixes.

Strange was one of the figures of the New Romantic movement and one of the originators of London clubs such as Billy's and the Blitz Club. With Visage, he found success with “Fade To Grey”. The album was conceived with Steve Barnacle, who played in several Visage line-ups.

Four tracks, “Seven Deadly Sins”, “Breathe Life”, “Welcome To The Digital Age” and “Never Stop Dreaming”, later appeared in different versions on Visage records. This edition presents the versions Strange originally intended. It also features the duet “Dirty & Flirty” with Samantha Fox, the title track as a tribute to David Bowie, and “Boys”, an anthem of the gay scene.

The two-CD set includes liner notes by Steve Barnacle, all the lyrics and a 20-page booklet with illustrations and photographs.

Apoptygma Berzerk puts Exit Popularity Contest on digital platforms

Apoptygma Berzerk, the Norwegian EBM and futurepop band led by Stephan Groth, will release its album Exit Popularity Contest on digital and streaming platforms on October 27, 2026, a first. Released in 2016 only on CD, cassette and double vinyl by Rough Trade and The End Records, the record is sold out at the band and at most of its distributors. The rights have reverted to the band, which clears the way for this digital edition. Bandcamp supporters get early access.

In its announcement, the band says the physical release has served its purpose and thanks those who bought the record in that format.

The album gathers reworked versions of tracks from three instrumental EPs released between 2014 and 2016: Stop Feeding The Beast (2014), Videodrome (2015) and Xenogenesis (2016). It has ten tracks, including “The Genesis 6 Experiment”, “Stille Når Gruppe” and “Rhein Klang”.

Apoptygma Berzerk formed in 1989 in Sarpsborg, Norway, around Stephan Groth and Jon Erik Martinsen.

Tramhaus, from Rotterdam, delivers Blister, a second post-punk album

Tramhaus, a post-punk band born in Rotterdam during the pandemic restrictions, releases Blister, its second album, two years after The First Exit. The quintet is made up of Lukas Jansen (vocals), Nadya van Osnabrugge and Micha Zaat (guitars), Julia Vroegh (bass) and Jim Luijten (drums), musicians already active in the local underground.

The sound rests on repetitive, krautrock-inspired patterns played at punk speed. The two guitars work by contrast: one holds the tension, the other alternates between feedback and sharp lines. Jansen's vocals swing between frantic recitation and screams. The lyrics deal with personal identity, alienation, paranoia and the absurdity of human relationships.

Blister has eleven tracks and was preceded by the single “Plovdiv”. According to OndaRock, “The Answer?” and “Rat Race” are the most incisive, while “Solace” brings the melody. The Italian magazine sees the band as a representative of the new Dutch post-punk scene.

Ruth's Polaroïd/Roman/Photo by Thierry Müller, a cult record of French coldwave

Released in 1985 by Paris Records, Ruth's Polaroïd/Roman/Photo sold around fifty copies and almost immediately vanished from the racks. It resurfaced in the early 2000s as a cult document of European coldwave.

Behind Ruth is Thierry Müller, a Parisian photographer, graphic designer and musician, who was already behind the project Ilitch, launched in the late 1970s. He cited Brian Eno, Stockhausen, Velvet Underground, Pere Ubu, Neu! and Kraftwerk among his references. In the early 1980s, he wanted more accessible, danceable music. Ruth had no stable lineup: Müller called on musicians as the tracks required.

The singer Ruth Ellyeri never existed: the name is an anagram of Thierry Müller. He told Louis Pattison of The Quietus that Ruth was part of his personality and that the record was conceived for women.

The album has seven tracks, including “Thriller”, “Mabelle” and a cover of “She Brings The Rain” by Can. The title track rests on a dry electronic pulse, an elastic bass, an angular saxophone and the shutter sound of a Polaroid camera. It stages a dialogue between a male and a female voice: a shy boy tries to seduce a girl who is far more at ease.

Hammer Films acquires the entire body of work of Susan Hill, author of The Woman in Black

Hammer Films has acquired all the literary works of Susan Hill, the British author known for The Woman in Black. The deal was led by John Gore Studios, owner of Hammer since 2023. It covers the whole catalogue, including The Man in the Picture, Dolly, The Small Hand, The Mist in the Mirror and Printer's Devil Court, ghost stories that critics have long compared to those of M.R. James.

The plan is to adapt these texts for film, television and theatre, wherever the rights allow. Susan Hill will remain an executive producer and will take part in the development strategy. John Gore, founder of John Gore Studios, promises to approach her work with “care, craftsmanship and respect for character, suspense and atmosphere”. The author sees it as a new life for her stories and recalls Hammer's place in the history of British gothic.

Hammer had already produced a television adaptation of The Woman in Black in 1989, before the 2012 film starring Daniel Radcliffe. No director, screenwriter or release date is attached to the upcoming adaptations.

HALLOWARRIOR: Ben Sottak and Milly Shapiro discuss their Halloween film on Shudder

HALLOWARRIOR, Ben Sottak's first feature film, is available on Shudder. Milly Shapiro (Hereditary) plays Pumpkin, the last girl on Earth after an apocalyptic epidemic that wiped out much of the population and the food supply. Alone for her fourth Halloween night without family, she sees a group of sinister, costumed trick-or-treaters with sharp teeth arrive at her door.

Rue Morgue describes a one-night chamber piece set in a haunted house, with warm lighting and nostalgic trappings, that blends several subgenres.

In the interview given to the magazine, Ben Sottak cites the “last man on Earth” archetype of Richard Matheson (I Am Legend), as well as Romero and Sam Raimi. The idea also came from a conversation with his little sister, then about the same age as Pumpkin, who wanted to turn Halloween into a daily celebration. Milly Shapiro says she read the script in 2020 and saw it as a coming-of-age story.
