Mono Inc. unveils the ballad Shelter, second single from 20 Years of Darkness

Mono Inc., a gothic rock band, releases Shelter, the second single from the anniversary album 20 Years of Darkness. The record is due on November 27 on NoCut Entertainment. A lyric video accompanies the song.

Shelter is a ballad about support, safety and mutual trust in difficult times. The instrumentation stays stripped back: a discreet piano sets the mood, while an expressive guitar solo and a two-voice chorus in the finale give the song more scope.

Shelter sits at number ten on a list of 32 tracks that also includes Comedown, Mondschein, Herzblut, The Raven's Back and Euthanasia.

UNATONED, from Albuquerque, debuts with Essence, a darkwave single about faith and identity

UNATONED is a new darkwave, post-punk and gothic rock project from Albuquerque, New Mexico, formed by Andres Diaz, Sidney San Gil and Hissan Orozco. Essence is its first single.

The lyrics describe a tormented character who seeks absolution and destroys themself by submitting to a belief system. Guilt turns into hatred, forgiveness drifts away, and images of blood, martyrdom and fallen angels give the song a biblical feel. Post-Punk.com hears echoes of Depeche Mode, Altar De Fey, Octavian Winters and The Bellwether Syndicate.

The video, shot and directed by Oscar Montez in Albuquerque, follows a man through deserted streets. He ends up begging before a candlelit altar where a skeleton in a cape stands.

Some Days Are Darker: NDRI, a darkwave-tinged synthpop track about the need for authenticity

Some Days Are Darker, an American trio, presents NDRI. The song takes a muted but dense direction, with a subdued darkwave influence over a backdrop of dark, elegant synthpop. Breaks and well-placed bridges cut the composition into chapters, and the clear, soft vocals sit above the synthesizers.

The lyrics deal with the desire for authenticity and the conflict between emotional numbness and the need to feel fully. Electrozombies, which reviews the track, calls it an atmospheric success.

Craigycraig of Fatewell brings technology to synthpop with You’re Not So Human

Craigycraig of Fatewell releases You’re Not So Human, a synthpop song about our relationship with technology. The lyrics blend human emotions with references to computer code: the artist sings lines such as “Oh I will # hash what you say” ahead of a chorus of layered vocals.

The song plays on the idea of technology that increasingly imitates humans, while defending what makes each person unique. The artist describes it as a song “about our strange relationship with technology” and states that artificial intelligence was not used to make it.

Musically, bright synthesizers accompany a driving rhythm, with a piano bridge. Obscure Sound notes a touch in the chorus that recalls Erasure.

Reflexion returns with Death of Dolor, first single since 2010

Finnish dark rock band Reflexion releases Death of Dolor on October 16, 2026. It is the band's first new track since 2010. A second song, Bulletproof, is due later in the year.

Formed in Oulu in 1996 under the name BarbarianZ, the band became Reflexion in 2000. It went on indefinite hiatus after its third album, Edge, released in 2010 on Mach XX. A first attempt at new material in 2024 went in a direction too far from its sound and was set aside. The band went back into the studio in March 2026: demos for both songs came together over the first weekend, and the final recordings took place between April and June.

The lineup is the one from the first album, Out of the Dark (2006, A1 Music): Juha Kylmänen on vocals, Juhani Heikka and Ilkka Jolma on guitars, Mikko Uusimaa on bass, Ari-Matti Pohjola on drums. Arttu Peljo, who had mixed Out of the Dark, finalized the new songs. Teemu Hostikka, who designed the original logo, is working on the new visual identity.

The band says: “We didn't try to recreate the old Reflexion. We wanted to make music that suits us today, but when you listen to it, you recognize Reflexion right away.”

Kevin Johnson, ’Twas the Night: a folk horror novel where Christmas never ends

’Twas the Night, Kevin Johnson's first novel, was published on October 13, 2026 by William Morrow (288 pages, paperback, ebook and audiobook). It belongs to Christmas folk horror.

Halley Belanger, a journalist who dislikes Christmas, follows a series of child disappearances across Maine to Yule, a village where the season never ends and Santa Claus is worshipped as a god. The decorations there are acts of worship, and the residents' generosity, especially through baking, becomes unsettling.

In its review, Ginger Nuts of Horror gives it 4 out of 5. The review praises the narrator's humor, the couple Bob and Barry who run the inn, and the growing unease in the village. It faults the book for a somewhat thin mythology.

The first half relies on dread more than blood. Explicit violence arrives late and also affects children and animals.

Brute 1986, sequel to Marcel Walz’s slasher, acquired by Cinephobia Releasing

Cinephobia Releasing has announced that it has acquired North American and UK rights to Brute 1986, directed by Marcel Walz. The film follows Brute 1976, released last summer. The deal was negotiated between Raymond Murray, president of Cinephobia, and executive producers Tobias Schuermann and Dirk Schuermann.

The story is set ten years after the first film. Glam metal band Leather Kobra is shooting a music video in an abandoned western town. The extremely violent Birdy family lives nearby, and the shoot turns into a night of terror. The screenplay is by Joe Knetter, and the original score is by Crazy Lixx. Where Brute 1976 paid homage to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, this new installment turns to 1980s slashers such as Friday the 13th and Maniac.

The cast includes Dazelle Yvette, who was already in the previous film, Sarah French and Gigi Gustin, as well as Bill Kaulitz of Tokio Hotel, Pancho Moler, Lew Temple, Sarah Kaplan and Heather Grace Hancock, among others.
