Fontaines D.C. cast Charlie Heaton in the Japan video

Fontaines D.C. have released the video for Japan, the new single from Dopamine Chamber, the Irish band's fifth studio album. The lead role is played by Charlie Heaton, the British actor and musician best known for playing Jonathan Byers in the series Stranger Things. The video is directed by Luna Carmoon, with Angèle Metzger and Sean Black in the cast. It plays on surreal atmospheres. Barry Keoghan was previously the protagonist of the video for Bug.

Produced by James Ford, Dopamine Chamber arrives two years after Romance, released in 2024. The album was preceded by Marianne, Tongue and a track in collaboration with Rosalía.

Chatten explains the title: “The album itself is a dopamine chamber. You enter it and we test different tracks on you that can alter the mind or the mood.” He describes a darker record than Romance, marked by a humanity transformed by technology and automation, which was meant to sound like a catastrophic warning.

Heldautomat announces Zwischen den Lichtern, a debut album blending synth-pop and post-punk

German-Swiss duo Heldautomat will release their debut album, Zwischen den Lichtern, on 23 October 2026. The record combines synth-pop and post-punk.

Christian Purwien and Thomas Kowa (Purwien & Kowa) wrote the album after deliberately settling in Bristol and Berlin, away from everyday life, to give themselves room for new ideas.

The lyrics revolve around in-between states: between past and future, closeness and distance, hope and disillusionment. Songs such as Liebe ist endlich and Am ersten Tag deal with transience, farewell and the realization that you are no longer who you were. Despite the melancholy, the duo keeps a deadpan self-mockery. According to Orkus, the album offers no simple answers and invites further reflection.

Ghostbells on how the darkwave duo prepared their debut on Out of Line

In an interview with ReGen Magazine, Jessica Perry and Jim Finley, the duo Ghostbells, look back on their journey. The project began in August 2025, with a first single released on August 22, 2025 on Out of Line, a label they signed with in June of the same year. Since then they have put out singles, music videos and the EP Catacouture, released in February.

The singles were released roughly six weeks apart, a streaming strategy that Finley justifies by pointing to algorithms. A full album is announced for April, with more singles before then.

Perry explains that the duo worked on Ghostbells for two years before approaching labels, which allowed them to prepare everything in advance. They make their own music videos. Finley is the cinematographer and editor, and he also mixes and produces all the tracks.

For the “Wrath” video, Perry suggested the idea of a hooved creature running through the woods. Finley agreed right away, and she came over the next day for the shoot. The idea for the project came about during a train ride, probably in France, where the name Ghostbells was also chosen.

The Monochrome Set: Bid discusses the band's songwriting and its beginnings with the B-Sides

In an interview with OndaRock, Ganesh Seshadri, known as Bid, singer of The Monochrome Set, describes a band centered on its lyrics. In his words, they are what allows the music to change slightly from one album to the next. He writes from what he has lived or imagined, without a moralizing tone and without ever touching on politics. He has been reading poetry since the age of 12 and names Ogden Nash, Edith Sitwell, Swift and Coleridge among his earliest influences.

Writing the songs for an album takes six months on average. Strange Boutique (1980) took three years, with some tracks such as Goodbye Joe and He's Frank dating from 1977. Love Zombies was written faster, as the band needed money. Keyboardist John Paul Moran unexpectedly played the Genesis-evoking part in Rest, unquiet spirit (Fabula Mendax, 2019), which the band ended up keeping.

The origins go back to the B-Sides, formed by Stuart Goddard, the future Adam Ant, with guitarist Lester Square. Andy Warren joined on bass, then Bid on rhythm guitar, with a drum machine in place of a drummer. When Goddard disappeared for a while, Lester Square, Andy Warren and Bid began working on his songs.

OndaRock points out that Bid's voice influenced Franz Ferdinand and Morrissey, and that the band delivered at least four landmark albums between Strange Boutique and The Lost Weekend (1985).

Sleepwalk returns with Dystopia, a double album on Electro Aggression Records

Swiss band Sleepwalk, formed in 1992 by Bruno Ruch and Oliver Spring, releases Dystopia on Electro Aggression Records. The double album follows Tempus Vincit Omnia (2017) and sits within EBM and dark electro. It features fifteen new tracks, and its second disc gathers covers of the band's classics by artists from the electro-industrial scene. Bruno Ruch is reunited there with Andreas (Andy) Lehmann. The record came out first on vinyl, then on CD.

In an interview, Andy Lehmann explains that Dystopia was finished in 2023, but outside circumstances delayed the release, which had originally been planned for the band's 30th anniversary. Work began in 2021 from demos by Bruno Ruch, and Arnte (Pyrroline) added the final touches.

The lyrics were begun during the Covid period. For Lehmann, dystopia, long confined to science fiction, now describes the world we live in. The band wanted to return to its sonic roots, using today's technical possibilities.

La Nuit Américaine, a French darkwave duo, offers La Voix Des Incendies, a light electro pop track with a slow build, whose sound leans clearly toward Chromatics.

The blog Electrozombies says it hesitated at first, before being won over by a discreet magic and a youthful naivety that are all its own.

Adam Macqueen's Hobbe's Folly: a ghost story across two eras

Adam Macqueen's Hobbe's Folly came out on October 8, 2026 from Swift Press, as a 240-page hardcover and as an ebook. It is an occult horror novel built across two eras, the author's first supernatural novel after the collection Haunted Tales.

In 1904, Henry Canning, a young employee of an antiquarian bookshop, is sent to the coast to catalog the library of a dead occultist, Matthew Hobbe. In the present day, Ben, a conservation officer at a seaside council, must prove that a small brick building with no door or window, in the middle of a field where 250 homes are planned, is not worth saving. The two narratives alternate.

On Ginger Nuts of Horror, Jim McLeod gives it five stars out of five, finding a slow, polite dread in the 1904 strand, a more brutal one in the contemporary strand, and warning that some scenes are deliberately uncomfortable.
