Then Comes Silence announces Requiem Ballroom, a seventh album in two parts

The Swedish post-punk and gothic rock trio Then Comes Silence will release its seventh album, Requiem Ballroom, on 20 November 2026 on Metropolis Records. Three singles have preceded it since August: Judgement Day, Remaker Redeemer and Bye Bye Land, the latter released on 16 October with its video.

The record is conceived as a diptych. The first half, Requiem, evokes darkness and farewell, while the second, Ballroom, turns toward light and renewal. Alex Svenson, the band's singer, produced the album, which was recorded in two Stockholm studios. Tom van Heesch mixed Requiem, Jon Bordon mixed Ballroom, and Svante Forsbäck handled the mastering at Chartmakers.

Bye Bye Land grew out of a personal story: Svenson explains that he wrote it for a close friend who, after a trauma, no longer wanted to live, to remind him how much he matters. Requiem Ballroom follows Trickery, released in 2024. Svenson, drummer Jonas Fransson and guitarist Hugo Zombie have formed the band since 2022.

Spectres Of Desire delivers Entanglement, dark synthpop about intergenerational pain

Entanglement is the track by Spectres Of Desire, an American solo artist who is discovering the synthpop genre and is asking for feedback on the work. The song combines rich analog synthesizers, a crisp beat and nostalgic melodies.

The voice stays candid and does almost without masking effects. The lyrics deal with pain passed down between generations and the desire for redemption, through the story of a person who stays by a declining loved one until their death.

Electrozombies finds the track surprisingly accomplished, like the work of someone who has been steeped in dark synthpop since childhood. Entanglement can be heard on Spotify and on Bandcamp.

LIINES returns with As Shadows Fall, a Manchester post-punk EP on Crackedankles

The Manchester post-punk band LIINES releases the EP As Shadows Fall on Friday 23 October on Crackedankles Records, with a limited edition on sky-blue 12-inch vinyl. It is their first physical release since 2020. The track Always The Same is already online.

The EP has five tracks: Look For You, Go, Always The Same, Wait and Holding On. The band reunites there with producer Paul Tipler, who worked on their first album, Stop-Start. Recording took place at Unit 13 Studios in London, and Katie Tavini mastered the record.

Singer and guitarist Zoe McVeigh explains that Always The Same deals with the strange comfort of repetition: what reassures can also keep you trapped. Drummer Leila O'Sullivan says Crackedankles gave the band “a new lease of life”. LIINES formed in 2014.

Pamphlets announces Somewhere In Zacatecas, a new post-punk album on Lost Future Records

The post-punk duo Pamphlets will release its new album, Somewhere In Zacatecas, on 29 January 2027 on Lost Future Records, on CD and digitally. Pre-orders are open on Bandcamp.

Pamphlets brings together singer and guitarist Jeremy Marquez, based in Brooklyn, and bassist Ben Griffin, from Philadelphia, who were brought together through a network of friends. Among their admirations they cite Preoccupations, Ought and Protomartyr, as well as The Fall, Joy Division and Bloc Party.

Their latest EP, Cause//Effect, opened a new phase, turned toward a heavier sound and more sentimental lyrics. The band presents itself as an unabashed call to action, with songs about the chaos, uncertainty and anxiety of the age.

End of Green return with Ashes & Gold, their tenth album, nine years after Void Estate

Nine years after Void Estate, End of Green return with Ashes & Gold, their tenth studio album, which falls within gothic rock. Orkus has published the first part of a three-part interview with the band, which has been around for three decades.

Asked about the comeback, Kirk Kerker cites a label change, a pandemic, several wars, but also the power of love and friendship. He explains that the title track speaks directly to the band's historic soul and serves as a thank-you to loyal, patient fans. In his words, the song started as a spark that became a blaze, built on a high-pitched frequency and a deep rumble, with the vocals linking the two.

The video was made independently during the longest heat period ever recorded. The band chose not to play their instruments in it, to leave room for the song, and is saving the fury for a second video.

Puppenjunx, a German EBM project, will release its debut album, Einz, on 6 November 2026 on Infacted Recordings. It is led by Martin Bodewell and Lars Timm Felker, both members of Orange Sector. The first single, Der Präsident ist tot, has been available digitally since 16 October, accompanied by an Orange Sector Club Mix.

The project lets them develop ideas that do not fit the current direction of Orange Sector. There they cultivate a minimal, direct EBM, closer to the origins of the genre.

The name refers to the historical term “Puppenjungs”, tied to the criminal history of Hanover and the Fritz Haarmann case in the 1920s. A limited number of CDs has been pressed, available to pre-order directly from the band.

X & Stacy unveils Sangre Eterna, EBM sung in Spanish, on Divination Records

The Chicago duo X & Stacy, made up of Yasmine Esparza and Jason Schmal, released Sangre Eterna on 19 October on Divination Records. It is their second single, available on streaming platforms and on Bandcamp.

The band draws on the new beat sounds of EBM and industrial, with a touch of italo disco. Sangre Eterna relies on biting basslines, undulating rhythms and eerie synths, punctuated by scratchy guitar. Schmal produced and mixed the track, which was mastered by John Scrip, and Esparza sings in Spanish.

Earlier this year the duo published demos of Sail Away and I Spy, then Love or Lust in September, its real debut. It is preparing an EP or an album. Schmal is the singer and founder of the band The Children's Crusade, and also plays live with Miss Misery.

BLAT delivers Ecos del Silencio, a debut album of Spanish-language post-punk and coldwave

BLAT, a Spanish-language post-punk and coldwave project led by Lith Alvedo and Søren Lūcius, releases its debut album, Ecos del Silencio (Echoes of Silence). The twelve songs address the pressure of consumer society, conformity, romantic obsession and psychological distress.

The duo cites Molchat Doma, She Past Away, Twin Tribes and the Mexican alternative rock of Caifanes. Their tracks rest on massive basslines, guitars run through pedals and drum machines, with touches of surf, shoegaze and bluesy solos.

The two voices provide the contrast: Søren Lūcius moves from dark declamation to tender singing, while Lith Alvedo brings a colder presence, softened by reverb. The opening track, Cadenas, sets up atmospheric coldwave around a melodic bassline, while Dictadura places authoritarianism in the mind.

“Ecos del Silencio was born when we stopped meeting the world's expectations and embraced our inner philosophy,” they explain.

Kontravoid releases The Sound of the Void on Artoffact

Kontravoid releases The Sound of the Void on the label Artoffact. The project was founded in 2011 by Canadian Cameron Findlay, a former member of the synthpop band Parallels. Its self-titled debut album came out in 2012 on Tarantula X Records.

Ten tracks blend electro pop, EBM and darkwave. The Dark Entries reviewer points to a short intro that gives the record its title, “Without” which kicks off the dancing, “Mortal” which flirts with dark electro, and “Subject” which is closer to EBM. The reviewer compares “Chances” to Twin Tribes and Geometric Vision.

“Abandon” shifts to electro ambient in under two minutes, before “Returning,” a rougher electro pop, and then “Phantom,” which closes the album. For the reviewer, the mix of dance and atmosphere is the project's hallmark, and the album is recommended to electro fans.

Station Model Violence, a Sydney band built around Daniel Stewart, releases a first post-punk album

Station Model Violence is a band formed in Sydney in 2024 around Daniel Stewart, singer of Total Control. The four other musicians come from the local DIY scene: Den, R.M.F.C., Slug Guts and Gaud. OndaRock calls this five-piece, made up of three guitars, a bass and drums, a supergroup.

The debut album, which shares the band's name, blends post-punk, art rock, psychedelic touches and noisy roughness. It is rooted in gray, arid urban settings. Bass and saturated guitars form a continuous rumble, and Stewart's deep voice is backed by austere, almost martial backing vocals.

The record plays on length and repetition. “Learn To Hate” opens the album, “Leisure” evokes Joy Division weighed down with heavy guitars, and “Heat” runs past eight minutes. OndaRock says critics have received the album well and credits it with an original voice in a crowded genre.

Christina Henry: The Place Where They Buried Your Heart, a Chicago street facing its haunted house

Christina Henry sets The Place Where They Buried Your Heart on an ordinary street in Chicago. The novel, a haunted house story, was published in paperback by Titan Books on November 4, 2025 (352 pages). Jim McLeod reviewed it for Ginger Nuts of Horror and gives it 4.5 out of 5.

In 1973, Glen McIntyre killed his wife and children before taking his own life. The neighbors had heard the fighting and never called the police. In 1993, eight-year-old Paul enters the abandoned house with two friends, Jake and Richie, on a dare from his thirteen-year-old sister Jessie. Jake comes out missing an arm, Richie without a mark, and Paul does not come out. The adults think it was an abduction, while the boys say the house devoured him. Jessie believes them.

The book follows Jessie in the first person over the years and into adulthood, always on the same street. The neighbor Ted Dobrowski and Jake form a surrogate family around her as her parents' marriage falls apart. The reviewer praises the way the author turns the neighborhood's indifference into the true source of horror, and faults the novel only for a rushed final section.

Crawlers: Ángel Gómez Hernández locks tenants in with thousands of man-eating spiders

In Ángel Gómez Hernández's Crawlers, a tenant is found dead in a Los Angeles apartment building. Police put the building under quarantine, believing it to be a virus, while spiders that attack humans begin to spread through the floors. Matilda Lutz plays Serena, the building manager and aspiring musician, who discovers the first body. Gregg Sulkin and Melina Matthews complete the cast.

The screenplay is by Jayson Rothwell. The film, which runs 1 h 20 min, opens in UK cinemas on 30 October 2026 via Signature Entertainment.

In Ginger Nuts of Horror, Hope Madden gives it 3 out of 5. She finds the plot thin, but praises the tension built floor by floor and digital effects convincing enough to make her itch during the screening. She feels Sting and Infested do it better, but both films are no longer in theaters.

A24 has announced that Slayground, the horror film by Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room, Rebel Ridge), will open in theaters on January 29, 2027. The studio accompanied the announcement with a new poster, in a campaign that keeps the plot secret.

The first teaser, which appeared in September, relies on surveillance footage of a fictional haunted attraction and suggests a Halloween night that goes wrong for those who venture into its maze.

Imogen Poots and James Badge Dale lead the cast, which also includes Matty Matheson, Cory Michael Smith, Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, Young Mazino and Stephen Root. No official trailer has been released yet: the teaser remains the only glimpse of the film.
