She Wants Revenge announces The Loved and unveils Black Wax / Our Love

Dark wave band She Wants Revenge, led by Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin, announces The Loved, its fourth studio album and the first in more than fifteen years. It is due on February 12, 2027. The single Black Wax / Our Love is the first track to emerge from it.

It follows the 20th anniversary edition of the band’s 2006 self-titled album, certified gold and home to Tear You Apart, released earlier this year. For Adam Bravin, the song explores the contradictions of love: something beautiful and destructive at once. He sees it as a natural evolution for the band, with no attempt to redo what already exists.

The video is directed by Bravin himself. He describes it as a fragment of a film you have walked into halfway through, beautiful but unsettling, where the images weigh as much as the music.

The lineup brings together Warfield (vocals, guitar), Bravin (Bass VI, synths), Thomas Froggatt (bass), Tony Bevilacqua of The Distillers (guitar) and Lia Braswell, who has played with Chelsea Wolfe, A Place To Bury Strangers and TR/ST (drums).

Black Doldrums releases Echoes on Fuzz Club

London duo Black Doldrums, made up of Kevin Gibbard and Sophie Landers, releases Echoes on October 22, 2026 on Fuzz Club. The release has four tracks: Echoes, Waiting, Compulsion and Repetition in its single version.

The band plays gothic post-punk with dark psychedelic touches, built on echo-drenched guitars and heavy, insistent drums. It cites 1960s proto-psychedelia and the icy post-punk of the 1980s among its influences.

Gealdýr releases Nornir, four tracks on Arvur Records

The nordic folk project Gealdýr released Nornir on 21 October 2026 on Arvur Records. The release comprises four tracks: Nornir, Urðr, Verðandi and Skuld.

Gealdýr is the project of Dutch singer-songwriter and producer Jonathan Barendsma. The name combines the Gaelic word “geal” (white) with the Old Norse “dýr” (deer). Barendsma discovered the music of Wardruna during a difficult period of his life. He wanted to tell his story through music, with the Poetic Edda as a source of inspiration.

His first single, Ragnarök, dates from autumn 2018. He signed with Fimbul Records, Danheim's label, in January 2019, then released Othala on 4 February 2019 and the EP Sær on 19 February 2019. He has collaborated with Danheim on several occasions.

SMILE runs away with Gotta Run, ahead of the album Gun-Shy

Post-punk quintet SMILE, spread across Amsterdam, Berlin and Cologne, releases Gotta Run, the first single from its second album Gun-Shy. The record is due on January 22, 2027 on Siluh Records, a Vienna label.

The song rests on deep drums and a thick, dirty bassline, with a guitar sawing away underneath. Rubee Fegan’s abrasive, near-spoken vocals rise toward a scream, recalling Kim Gordon in the days of Sonic Youth. The lyrics describe escaping a violent family as a physical ordeal.

The video was conceived by Rubee Fegan, Taylor Cappage and Olivia Martinez. It follows Fegan, dressed as a pink poodle, through Albuquerque, her hometown. Annika Henderson, aka Anika, sees in the album’s press text a piece about trying to get out, driven by fast drums.

Gun-Shy was recorded with Olaf Opal at Bear Cave studio in Cologne, from demos some of which come from Albuquerque. It follows the EP I Hate It Here (2022) and the album Price of Progress (2023).

Geneva Jacuzzi and Reptile Tile: the Candy Boy video is shot in a neo-noir candy shop

Geneva Jacuzzi, a Los Angeles-based synthpop singer, teams up with Reptile Tile, an art-rock band from Virginia Beach founded in 2015 by Roderick Edens, a.k.a. Terry Cloth. Together they release Candy Boy, a three-track EP made up of Candy Boy, Accessory and Cliche. The latter two explore a livelier synthpop.

The title track was written during the sessions for Triple Fire, Jacuzzi's album released on Dais Records in 2024. It is also set to appear on Reptile Tile's next album.

The self-produced video was directed by Andrew Briggs, a member of Reptile Tile, and filmed on location in Virginia Beach by Taylor Casey. It draws on neo-noir film and on 1990s children's television series. On the seaside boardwalk, Jacuzzi plays an ingénue pursued by a mustachioed policeman, played by Edens, who is investigating a trade in illicit candy. She falls for the officer's son, an employee of the candy shop, who takes her to a secret laboratory behind the store. The performance scenes, shot under pink light, pay homage to Madonna's Material Girl video.

Freunde der Italienischen Oper returns with the album Angelus Luminis

The quintet, led by singer Ray van Zeschau, blends dark wave, post-punk, indie rock and dark chanson. The record alternates reinterpretations and new songs, with unexpected stylistic shifts, a pronounced tenor voice and a good dose of irony.

Titles include Wir schaffen das, Die Rache des Leiermannes and What Power Art Thou.

David Thrussell (Snog, Black Lung) is wary of digital technology

In an interview with Side-Line, David Thrussell, a key figure of Snog and Black Lung, looks back on a 2026 in which his projects overlap. Under his own name, he released the ritual recording The Reign Of Dead Matter, captured live at the Melbourne Lodge of the Theosophical Society. With Darrin Verhagen of Shinjuku Thief, he made The Call Of Cthulhu, a spoken and sonic interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft. A new Black Lung album, Ordo Ab Chao, recorded live in Paris for a Masonic soundscape commission, is imminent.

Thrussell says he is wary of digital technology. He puts forward a theory: that it behaves like a life form seeking territory and resources, a parasite on a humanity that serves as its host. He also observes that subversion is now treated as a consumer product, and judges that the healthiest course is to deny this machine the attention it demands.

No full Snog album has appeared since Eight Offerings For The Undead. He says the band makes a record when the songs come, and he sees no point in forcing things.

Sensitive Content, a French-Greek duo, releases its debut album Romantic Asthmatic

Sensitive Content, a French-Greek duo blending no wave and dark wave, released its debut album, Romantic Asthmatic, digitally on October 2, 2026. The record follows on transparent vinyl, limited to 200 copies and with a color insert, on October 23 on the Italian label Manic Depression.

The eight tracks follow a romantic and sexual relationship from its beginnings to its end. The duo addresses the collapse of a society that separates humans from animals, as well as toxic masculinity and control through power. Love appears as an escape that fails as soon as the relationship becomes destructive.

Tracks include Grievious Blow, Knifer, Gynaika, Charisma Phantasma, Heatwave, They Run and To Telos. Grievious Blow, the first single, has a video. The album first appeared on the band’s Bandcamp page.

The Human League and Dare, 45 years on: a look back at a synthpop album

To mark the 45th anniversary of Dare, the synthpop album by The Human League, God Is In The TV is republishing the review Luke Langlands wrote of it. The text dates from the week of 19 October 2026.

Before the album's release, singers Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley had to choose: leave the band to go to university, or commit to it full time. They put their studies on hold. Dare gave the band its first major commercial success, with Don't You Want Me as the album's last single.

Langlands points out that The Human League was looking for lyrics that make people think, at a time when electronic bands were mostly instrumental. The Sound of the Crowd is the track where Catherall and Sulley appear on record for the first time, with the alternation of male and female voices that became the band's trademark. On Darkness, melancholic synthesizers evoke the fear and helplessness of a sleepless night.

Savager: Dirk Blackman and Shannon Eric Denton discuss the sequel to their comic

Co-writers Dirk Blackman and Shannon Eric Denton answered questions from Daily Dead about Savager Vol. 1 Part 2, the second installment of their series published by PANICK Entertainment. The story is set nearly a hundred years after the invasion of Earth by cosmic parasites. Riley Phillips, a human-alien hybrid bonded to a parasite under his skin, is the only one who can save what remains of the planet.

Savager #3 is out on November 25, and Savager #4 on December 23. They dig into Riley’s past, notably his tragic story with his daughter Emma. For Denton, Riley had to become a monster to fight them. Blackman explains that the hatred born of the death of his wife and child is the foundation of the bond with the creature he carries.

Interior art is by Kewber Baal, colors by Schimerys Baal and lettering by Sal Cipriano. Covers are by Kyle Hotz for issue 3 and E.J. Su for issue 4.

FX renews American Horror Story for a fourteenth season

FX has confirmed the renewal of American Horror Story for a fourteenth season. Ryan Murphy’s anthology is picked up before the current season has even ended.

Season thirteen, starring Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange, wraps on October 29, with episodes streaming on Hulu. It reunites the original headliners in a nostalgic vein. The renewal is presented as accompanying the series’ biggest premiere on Hulu and Disney+, figures that Rue Morgue has not independently verified.

American Horror Story is FX’s longest-running series and has won seventeen Emmys. It was renewed in a block in 2020, with three seasons ordered at once: a single season therefore marks a change of pace. No theme, location or era has been announced for the fourteenth.
