Kommunity FK unveils Tribulations, first taste of the reissue of The Vision and the Voice

Los Angeles gothic punk and deathrock band Kommunity FK released “Tribulations” on October 21, the first preview of a remastered edition of its debut album, The Vision and the Voice. The single is available on Bandcamp and streaming platforms, just ahead of Halloween.

The reissue is announced for 2027 on Independent Project Records (IPR), the label that put out the album in 1983. The record had already been reissued in 1994 by Cleopatra Records and in 2006 by Mobilization Records. This new version is produced by Patrik Mata, the band’s founder and songwriter, and remastered by Warren Defever. It will be expanded with additional tracks, details of which will follow later.

“Tribulations” is Kommunity FK’s fourth release of 2026. In February the band put out “Let the Right One In” (from La Santisima Muerte, 2010) in its original version and in a Danse On YOUR Grave remix featuring drum loops by Martin Atkins (Pigface), followed by “Doll Ov Thee Undead” (from Thee Image & Thee Myth, 2015) on September 11. Formed in 1978, Kommunity FK was part of Los Angeles’ post-punk and gothic underground and helped pave the way for the deathrock scene of the 1980s.

BARA HARI returns with Iron Heart, a single with a more alternative rock tone

Los Angeles dark electro-pop artist BARA HARI releases “Iron Heart” on October 22, available on Bandcamp and streaming platforms. Sam Franco, the project’s founder, says she experimented with new sounds: the song takes on a clearly more alternative rock color than her previous tracks. It is produced and mixed by Ian Flux at Monican Audio, with live drums by Lorne Walker.

The lyrics address personal responsibility in the dead ends of a relationship, with the line “There's no winning” in the chorus. Both partners must accept their role to avoid depressive lows.

It is BARA HARI’s first new release since the single “A Flower in His Garden”, out in August 2025. In 2024 she collaborated with genCAB on “There Goes That Dream” and shared an acoustic version of “Tempest”. Her latest album, Lesser Gods, dates from 2023.

Basht., a band from Dublin, releases its debut album Poor Advice

Poor Advice is the debut album by Basht., a post-punk band from Dublin. It is produced by Ali Chant, who has worked with Yard Act, King Hannah and PJ Harvey, among others. According to OndaRock, the record blends alternative rock, gothic shadows and grunge tensions, alternating between tense anticipation and sudden bursts of guitar. The singer is Jack Leavey.

The lyrics take aim at inherited certainties. “Perfume” and “Superchurch” address Ireland’s Catholic heritage, “Terror TV” targets media overexposure, and “Kids Vs Guns” is dedicated to the Palestinian tragedy. “Dive” opens the album, “Keira Knightley” deals with an emotional shipwreck, and “Moth” evokes the fear of the other. “Vermillion Reptilian” and “Circadia” broaden the sonic landscape.

The title track closes the album on the possibility of still resisting.

Body Surfer releases the video for “Parents”, from be the archer, take your aim

Body Surfer is the project of Christopher Whitley, a violinist and composer based in Toronto. He is releasing the video for “Parents”, taken from be the archer, take your aim, the project’s first full-length album, due on October 23, 2026 on his own label, Language of Wishing. The album comes out on vinyl via Bandcamp and digitally.

Whitley describes the album as “a quiet celebration of a long relationship, a diary, a kind of travelogue”. The eight songs were written over ten years, between San Francisco, Austin, the Maryland suburbs and Toronto. Orchestral arrangements replace the minimalism of the earlier recordings. The record was made in Toronto between February and October 2025. Leland Whitty of BADBADNOTGOOD mixed it and plays saxophone and flute on nearly every track.

The video for “Parents” was directed by Blake Hannahson over two evenings in Toronto, starting in the green space behind Whitley’s elementary school. Whitley appears in it as a cowboy, a character he describes as “a wandering stranger, a disconnected anachronism”. The character helps him separate this artistic identity from his classical work, and echoes the country touches on the record.

IARA NAGA denounces abuses of power in the scene with debut single Big Fish

The London and Brighton duo IARA NAGA, made up of producers Shonalika and Danny Sanchez, releases its debut single, “Big Fish”, with a video. The song came out on October 22, 2026 on Gasolina Recordings. It was produced by the duo and mixed by Jack Milwaukee (M!R!M).

The lyrics target abuses of power within small communities, where displayed solidarity can serve as cover for some people’s need for control. Sonically, hammering drums and heavy bass synths drive an industrial darkwave sound. Post-Punk.com hears a crossover between the attack of Ministry and Nine Inch Nails and contemporary darkwave.

The video places a heavily made-up character in a red-walled room, between their reflection and their phone. A fake public apology quickly turns into an account of their own suffering. The duo performs in parallel in front of a white brick wall.

IARA NAGA formed in the summer of 2026, after the end of Death Drive. Its name comes from shapeshifting figures in Indian and Brazilian folklore, echoing the origins of the two producers.

A Slice Of Life announces the EP Echoes Of Our Time and unveils the track Back

Belgian post-punk band A Slice Of Life releases the EP Echoes Of Our Time on October 24. A first track, “Back”, is presented with a video.

Built around singer Dirk Vreys, who is also active in The ObsCURE, a tribute band to The Cure, the group draws on the 1980s and pairs dark, biting post-punk with the alternative rock of the current decade. It has already released two albums: Restless (Wool E-Discs, 2018) and Tabula Rasa (self-released, 2022).

Dark Entries describes “Back” as a very atmospheric post-punk song in which echoes of The Smiths, and even more of Morrissey, can be heard.

Michael Mizov discusses The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor, his first gothic horror novel

The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor, Michael Mizov’s first novel, was published on September 29, 2026 by Three Dragons Press. The 347-page gothic horror novel is available in hardcover, paperback and digital formats. Ginger Nuts of Horror publishes an interview with the author.

The story is set in Yorkshire in 1919. After her brother’s death in the Great War, nineteen-year-old Lottie Bradbury is called back to the family manor she had hoped never to see again. The gardener dies on the front steps, and his son arrives with a theory about the house. Mizov wanted a manor that seems to watch and to be hungry.

Based in New Jersey, Mizov has made short films under the name of his small studio, Brain Salad Productions, including the superhero parody Stuporhero, completed in 2019. He also founded the app company Sinecure Industries. In the interview, he talks about a 33,000-word outline, a title that suggested a romance, and a copy of Pet Sematary he read as a child.

Weldon Burge: a Greek Fury against a cop in Enter Vengeance

Enter Vengeance by Weldon Burge was published in May 2026 by Smart Rhino Publications, the company the author runs after decades as a professional editor. The book is a paranormal crime novel: a millionaire suspected of killing his wife is strangled in his locked and guarded room. Detective Rex Justison and the medium Alicia Masters hunt a killer who answers to no human law.

In an interview with Ginger Nuts of Horror, Burge explains that he first conceived his antagonist, the Fury Tisiphone, as a voice: the telephone thus becomes the instrument of fear. He then gave her chapters of her own, and believes that showing her savoring a coffee heightened the unease rather than softening it.

The working title was A Wild Kind of Justice, after a phrase by Francis Bacon, before reading Joseph Campbell steered him toward mythological vengeance. Burge says he prefers the word antagonist to villain for Tisiphone, and mentions a sequel in which he would return in more detail to the scene of the imprisoned boy.

Talking Heads: New Feeling, an archive book co-written by all four band members

David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Jerry Harrison and Chris Frantz have announced Talking Heads: New Feeling, a book that traces the band’s history through first-hand accounts, unseen documents and archives. Published by Abrams Books, it will be released on May 18, 2027, the year of the fiftieth anniversary of Talking Heads: 77, the debut album released in 1977.

Each of the four has written an essay. The volume also gathers original handwritten manuscripts of songs such as “Psycho Killer” and “Life During Wartime”, sketches for covers, private photos and behind-the-scenes images from Stop Making Sense, the 1984 film by Jonathan Demme. Jerry Harrison says that some of the photos had not left their archives in more than forty years.

Lorde, Debbie Harry, Jeff Bridges and Norwegian writer Karl Ove Knausgaard contribute to the book. The four musicians presented the project in a video shared on the publisher’s social networks. They had reappeared together in September 2023 at the Toronto festival, for the restored version of Stop Making Sense.

Tom Skerritt, captain of the Nostromo in Alien, dies at 93

American actor Tom Skerritt died Wednesday of natural causes at the age of 93, his manager announced. In Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979), he played Dallas, captain of the spaceship Nostromo, and was billed at the top of the poster, ahead of Sigourney Weaver. His character is not among the Xenomorph’s survivors.

Revealed by Robert Altman’s M*A*S*H (1970), in which he played the surgeon Duke Forrest, he amassed more than 100 screen credits. In the 1980s he took supporting roles in David Cronenberg’s The Dead Zone, Steel Magnolias and Top Gun, and led the horror sequel Poltergeist III. He won an Emmy in 1993 for playing Sheriff Jimmy Brock in the series Picket Fences.

Born in Detroit on August 25, 1933, he founded The Film School in Seattle to support young filmmakers and co-founded The Red Badge Project, which helps veterans facing post-traumatic stress. His last role was a supporting part in the western Broke, released in 2025.

John Carpenter says nobody understood the ending of The Thing

In an interview with the Academy, John Carpenter dismissed the theories that have grown around his 1982 film. “Every idea people have is not the right one. I know the right one,” he said, adding that there is an important clue in the film that nobody has found.

The final scene brings together MacReady (Kurt Russell) and Childs (Keith David), who share a bottle in the ruins of their Antarctic station without knowing whether the other is still human. For decades, viewers have scrutinized Childs' visible breath, the light in the eyes, or the flammable bottle MacReady hands over. Carpenter had already rejected the light-in-the-eyes explanation in 2023.

Producer Stuart Cohen wrote that screenwriter Bill Lancaster considered both men human, and that he shared that view, though he could not say whether Carpenter thought the same. The director also describes the ending as two men freezing to death to save humanity: “I saw it as the ultimate heroic act, but the audience didn't see it that way”.
