Throwing Muses: 1986 debut album reissued by 4AD for its 40th anniversary

4AD is reissuing the long out-of-print self-titled debut album by Throwing Muses, released in 1986, on December 11, 2026, for its fortieth anniversary. The record has been remastered by Kevin Vanbergen and keeps the original sleeve by Chris Bigg (v23). It will be available digitally, on standard black LP, on limited-edition Oxblood LP and on CD.

The Rhode Island band, made up of Kristin Hersh, Tanya Donelly, Leslie Langston and David Narcizo, was the first American band signed to 4AD, where it released seven studio albums and two major EPs. Its members were still teenagers when the record came out.

Kristin Hersh recorded it while eight months pregnant. Ivo Watts-Russell, then head of 4AD, funded the project after listening to their self-produced tape several times in a row, stuck in a traffic jam. He found an energy in it that reminded him of The Birthday Party.

Dead Man's Bones return with Lost In The Night, first music since 2009

Dead Man's Bones, the duo of Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, release Lost In The Night on ANTI- Records. It is their first music since their 2009 self-titled album.

Produced with longtime collaborator Tim Anderson, the track combines rattling drum machines, Bruce Springsteen-style grandeur, new wave synths and post-punk guitars. Gosling and Shields say they tried several Los Angeles studios without finding the sound they wanted, before heading to a farm on the outskirts with two guitars, two drum machines and two synthesizers, and recording the track in a single day. The result is rawer and more homemade than the 2009 record.

The video features Noah Jupe and Rain Spencer as young lovers leaving a cemetery for the lit streets of the city. The first album, recorded with the Silverlake Conservatory children's choir, blended gothic folk, old-school rock'n'roll and doo-wop.

Factory Floor announce One Trip, first album since 2016, on Phantasy Sound

Factory Floor will release One Trip on Phantasy Sound: a digital release next month, followed by vinyl on December 4. It is their first album since 2525, released in 2016. The band, which falls under electronic post-punk, are sharing the double single Continuation / One Trip to mark the occasion.

Continuation is described as dreamy, expansive and euphoric. One Trip leans toward the darker side of the band and is said to be one of their most intense dancefloor tracks.

The trio comprises Gabe Gurnsey (drums, percussion, electronics) and Nik Colk Void (modular synth, vocals), the original members, along with Joe Ward on percussion, who joined after Dominic Butler's departure. The band released their first album on DFA Records in 2012. Their return began in Montréal in 2024, when Alain Mongeau, founder of MUTEK, invited Void to reform Factory Floor for a live performance. Ten tracks are on the program, including Big Brain, Buzz Saw and Obsessed.

Eric David Wallace spotlights Dark Sky, a black-and-white video shot in Seattle

Seattle independent artist Eric David Wallace is putting Dark Sky back in the spotlight, the second track on his album Seattle Psalms, released on February 1, 2026 on Bandcamp. The song runs 4:09 and blends drum machines and layered synthesizers in a dark synth and darkwave style. Wallace cites Depeche Mode as a reference point.

The black-and-white video was shot around Seattle and directed by Wallace himself with cinematographer Raymond Parsons. It has been online since October 2023 and now serves as the centerpiece of the album campaign.

Seattle Psalms has nine tracks, including Cream Puff, You Came, Creeper, First Time, Scar and Harmless, as well as live versions of Cream Puff and First Time. Wallace releases his music on his own, on his Bandcamp page. His catalog also includes the EP The Open Door and the albums Mindful and Cream Puff (feat. Red Brown).

Declive releases El Final de Occidente, debut album from the Valencian quintet

Declive, a dream pop and post-punk band formed in Valencia in 2022, released its debut album, El Final de Occidente, on October 16. The quintet is made up of Rafeta Mansanet, Pablo Villegas, Pablo Gil, Jordi Sendra and Irina Navarro. It cites The Chameleons, Slowdive, Fontaines D.C., Triángulo de Amor Bizarro and La Plata among its influences. Before the album, it had released several singles and the EP Nuestro Abrazo (2025).

The album has eleven tracks, sung mostly in Castilian Spanish, except for Creure, which is in Valencian. Distorted guitars sit alongside luminous landscapes and melancholic atmospheres. The sound is brighter than on previous releases.

The lyrics respond to the uncertainty of today’s world, directly in Creure and more indirectly elsewhere, through metaphors and images of nature. The band also leaves room for hope: “we are also part of building it,” it says. Estrella en el pecho and Haz de luz are among the tracks mentioned.

Unify Separate releases Heart Aches, a Leo-sung single ahead of the album The God Particle

Synthpop duo Unify Separate releases the single Heart Aches on October 30, 2026, self-released. It precedes the album The God Particle, due on November 6.

Leo takes the lead vocals, while Andrew stays in the background and backs him up. The song relies on synthesizers and big choruses. Ventilator and heart monitor sounds can also be heard in the background, their rhythm approaching a heartbeat in the second chorus.

The lyrics speak of love and loss in general terms: the person is gone, but the love remains. The Reflections of Darkness reviewer reports that Leo lost his father in March 2026, and that the cover shows two doves, as on his parents’ grave.

You Won't Fear Them: Una sola, feminist synth-punk in Italian from Barcelona

You Won't Fear Them is the live project of Emilia Celona, an Italian composer, singer and producer based in Barcelona. Her first single, Una sola, is out on October 30 with a video, and announces the album A wider spectrum, due on December 11 on vinyl and digitally via Bandcamp.

Celona has been a DJ for more than a decade under the name Omvra and also composes for dance pieces and sound installations. The project marks her move to the stage. The style is synth-punk: analog sequences, fast rhythms, abrasive tension. Una sola opens with a darkwave bassline, then a synthwave keyboard collides with the Italian vocals and their punk attitude. The lyrics are a feminist anthem.

The video, directed by Dársena Agencia Creativa, is released on October 30 at 9 a.m. on the project's YouTube channel. It combines archive footage of feminist struggles with collective action in the streets of Barcelona. Celona composes and produces the track, vocal recording and mixing are by Alex Brinken, and mastering is by M.A. Spaventi.

T.H. Huddleston, author of The Cracks, talks punk, class and haunted houses

The Cracks, a gothic and satirical horror novel by T.H. Huddleston, was published on October 6, 2026 by Titan Books (368 pages, paperback and digital). Widowed, jobless and facing the loss of her home, chef Sandra Riley accepts an invitation from a university friend to Hautmond Hall, a decaying manor whose dreams, mirrors and cellar seem to demand something of her.

In an interview, Huddleston, a former member of Time Out’s film desk and singer in a folk-rock band, says the book began as a domestic thriller with a murder, an idea he considers mediocre and quickly dropped in favor of the haunted house. He rejects the classic question of whether the heroine is losing her mind: the haunting is real and several characters experience it. Sandra is sane, but trapped, as in the class system.

He also talks about Gerry, a friend of Sandra’s inspired by a university classmate: more weak and lazy than wicked, he profits from what the house does.

Maximilien: Yohan Dupuy blends horror novel and 12-ending narrative game

Author and illustrator Yohan Dupuy unveiled Maximilien on October 26, a game that sits between a horror novel and a multiple-choice narrative video game. The story takes place in Boston in 1926: players take on the role of a psychology student investigating a phenomenon that should not exist, while the city hunts a serial killer nicknamed the South Boston Ogre.

The story runs to roughly 110,000 words, accompanied by visual and sound effects, interactive video sequences and animated cutscenes. The player's decisions lead to 12 possible endings. The narrator's mental health affects how the text is presented: as he loses his grip, words and pages warp.

Maximilien is available in French and English on Steam, for PC on Windows and Linux, at $9.99 USD. Every word was written by hand, while part of the illustrations and audio work received assistance from artificial intelligence, later reworked manually.

Victorian Psycho: Maika Monroe as a murderous governess in a gothic manor

In Victorian Psycho, Maika Monroe plays Winifred Notty, an eccentric governess who arrives at an isolated gothic manor. Strange events soon arouse suspicion: she is clearly not what she claims to be. The film thus reverses the role the actress played in It Follows, where she was the prey, and continues her work in Longlegs.

Zachary Wigon, director of Sanctuary, directs from a screenplay by Virginia Feito, adapted from her own novel of the same name. Alongside Monroe are Thomasin McKenzie, Jason Isaacs, Ruth Wilson, Amy De Bruhn and Jacobi Jupe. The producers are Dan Kagan and Sebastien Raybaud.

Rated R for strong bloody violence and brief sexual content, the film opens in theaters on November 13.

The Birds: HBO develops series with Sarah Snook, moved to Alaska

According to Deadline, the series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds is now being developed by HBO. Emmy winner Sarah Snook stars, and Tom Spezialy (The Leftovers, Watchmen) is writing it. It is produced by Universal International Studios and Heyday Television, David Heyman's company.

The miniseries reimagines the film in present-day Alaska, with a criminal investigation at its center and new characters. Snook plays Myra Massey, a circuit judge who returns to her isolated hometown for a presumed-death hearing and discovers the bullet-riddled body of her childhood friend. As she investigates, she faces a wave of bird attacks. The project draws on the film and on the short story by Daphne du Maurier.

A remake has been stalled since 2007, when Universal Pictures announced a film with Naomi Watts. A revival followed in 2014, then a television adaptation for the BBC around 2017-2018, written by Conor McPherson. None reached production.
