WVM brings The Echoing to life in an animated Halloween video

Los Angeles artist WVM has released an anime-style video for The Echoing on YouTube and Instagram. The clip sets the electronic, goth-tinged single in a supernatural story made for Halloween. WVM also directed it.

The song blends 1980s goth influences, electronic textures and blues-inspired guitar. WVM wrote the song and played every instrument, vocals included. It was mixed by Sean Beavan and WVM himself. Beavan has worked with Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, among others.

WVM is a Los Angeles-based solo project spanning electronic music, alternative rock and cinematic sound. The catalogue includes collaborations with Christopher Berg, Sean Beavan, Josh Freese and Chris Vrenna. WVM also created Ludwig's Empire, an online game built around the track Empire: those who complete it receive a free download code for the song on Bandcamp.

Tomorrows Letters delivers Shadow Aspect, analog synthpop with darkwave accents

Belarusian artist Tomorrows Letters releases Shadow Aspect, a track built on vintage synth gear, a real drum kit and hand-played bass. The project deliberately steers clear of digital coldness to achieve an organic sound.

The track moves at a measured mid-tempo on a melancholic foundation.

The lyrics draw on the Jungian psyche: a stranger passes through their own skin like a ghost in a mirror, until the metaphor of the inner shadow takes shape. Electrozombies, which reviews the track, says it was won over from the first listen by its analog warmth.

Juice Webster releases Kind of Fantasy on Cohort Records

Juice Webster releases Kind of Fantasy, her second album, on Cohort Records. It follows JULIA, her debut released in 2023. Nine tracks of indie and alt-rock, produced and mixed by Simon Lam.

The title track deals with the feeling of having watched herself from the outside for years, adjusting her personality to fit an image. Webster says she wanted very direct lyrics and tense, dark, powerful instrumentation. “Pretty Please”, which she describes as a “miscommunication diss track”, relies on saturated guitars and crashing percussion.

Among the other tracks, “Kissing” opens the record, followed by “Care Yeah”, “Wind Me Up”, “Keep Warm”, “Long Drive” and “Blue”. “Spite” closes it. Backseat Mafia, which gives it 90/100, says the album goes further into alt-rock than JULIA, with rougher guitars.

The vinyl edition includes “Hannah” as a bonus, the 2024 single that marked her comeback.

2DCAT marks ten years with Zehn Jahre, five re-recorded tracks

The Washington, DC-based project 2DCAT releases Zehn Jahre for its tenth anniversary. The record gathers five tracks that became fan favorites, presented in reworked versions with new arrangements, alongside the originals. The producer of the same name used new synthesizers and percussion instruments he built himself.

The songs come from several records: “Shared Dreams” from Retro-Future (2017), “Star” from the EP Tragedy (2018), “What I'm Feeling” from Electric (2019), then “Stay With Me” and “Trying to Be” from Fantastic Voyage (2022).

2DCAT, who describes himself as an electrical engineer building synthesizers and repairing gear for musicians around the world, says he has grown a great deal as an artist. In his words, revisiting old mistakes that became beloved songs is both stimulating and difficult. This version is not final: more tracks are due to be revisited in the coming year.

Zehn Jahre is available digitally on Bandcamp. The project's latest album, This Is Not For You, dates from 2025, followed in 2026 by the EPs Eat the Rich and We're Here.

Lady Susan unveils the Attention video, one chapter of six

Montreal quartet Lady Susan presents the official video for “Attention” on 30 October 2026, exclusively on Spill Magazine. The song appears on Teenage Revenge, their first EP of six tracks, released independently on 25 September 2026. The videos for “Lottery” and “Romeo” came before it.

The song moves from rhythmic, groovy verses to a broad rock chorus. The lyrics deal with the attention economy: constant bad news, manufactured stories, the chase for likes, and the way everyone gets caught up in this cycle.

The video is one of six interlinked clips, one for each track on the EP, which together form a story the audience has to piece together. The band, formed in 2024 by four experienced musicians, handled the recording, mixing, filming, editing and promotional visuals themselves.

Tokyo-based noise artist Yuko Araki is announcing V, the sixth instalment in her numbered album series, for January 2027 on American Dreams. A first single, Decoded Void, is out with a video directed by Jackson Kaki. Its earliest ideas date back to 2025, the year Araki opened for Sumac in Tokyo.

She composes with a laptop for the sound material and modular systems to transform it. The record sits at the crossroads of club music, post-industrial electro and extreme music. It is billed as darker than IV and Zenjitsutan, in their vein, and as her most aggressive, intense and heavy work to date.

“I've always been drawn to heavy, abrasive sounds,” she explains. She also says she pushed the tension between noise and structure further, and thinks of V as a noise album.

Ashes Tomorrow: Richard Cranor launches his project with the single Prey and the EP Terminal

Richard Cranor, a Las Vegas-based producer, is launching Ashes Tomorrow with the EP Terminal and its opening track, the single Prey. Both come out on October 31 on Bandcamp. The single will also be available on the major streaming platforms, the EP by November 14 at the latest. A visualizer for Prey is premiering on ReGen Magazine.

Cranor, founder and vocalist of FleischKrieg, wants to carry forward the aggressive electro-industrial sounds of that band, with more electronic darkwave and futurepop, and the rhythmic drive of EBM.

Prey deals with the duality of human nature, between domination and the consensual submission of partners who find pleasure in it. The rest of the EP follows this thread, as the word terminal means both a final destination and a crossroads toward the unknown. According to Cranor, this tension between finality and possibility underpins the concept of the release.

FleischKrieg, whose latest single Generation H8 dates from July 2025, has not been officially disbanded. Cranor makes clear, however, that the band is on hold.

Vanitas Press, a new independent British bookseller and publisher founded by Vicki Donald, opens on 31 October 2026 at vanitaspress.co.uk. The online shop stocks only gothic literature, with titles from major publishers and small independent presses alike.

It runs from the genre's founders, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker, to Angela Carter, Shirley Jackson and Edogawa Rampo, and on to Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Laura Purcell and Catriona Ward.

Several collections structure the offer, including one devoted to Scottish gothic, alongside sections for bestsellers, new releases, rare books and romantasy.

A publishing house of the same name is planned. It will reissue gothic classics and publish new titles, with information on manuscript submissions expected in the new year.
